Homestay Program

Wheaton Academy’s homestay program offers international students a safe, welcoming home with a trusted host family. More than housing, it’s a place to belong, grow, and experience American life firsthand. Discover how our homestay model supports student success both in and beyond the classroom.

Home away from home

At Wheaton Academy, we believe that where a student lives shapes how they learn and grow. That’s why our international program offers a homestay experience rather than traditional dormitory housing. Each international student lives with a trusted, carefully selected host family from within our school community. These families include alumni, faculty, staff, and local parents who are committed to welcoming students and providing the care and support they need to thrive.

Homestay life allows students to become fully immersed in American culture. Whether it’s sharing meals around the dinner table, participating in weekend activities, or simply learning daily routines, students experience life in the United States in a more personal and meaningful way. This environment also provides consistent opportunities for language development, stronger communication skills, and greater cultural understanding.

Living in a home setting fosters connection and stability. Students receive daily support, academic encouragement, and a safe, structured environment where they are known and valued. Our host families work closely with Wheaton Academy to ensure each student’s experience is both nurturing and enriching. Regular check-ins, orientation, and training are part of our commitment to each student’s well-being.

Homestay students are also more closely connected to the school community. They are invited into the rhythm of life here—attending events, forming friendships, and building relationships that often last well beyond graduation. This model creates not just a place to live, but a place to belong.

For international students at Wheaton Academy, homestay is more than housing. It is an opportunity to grow in confidence, independence, and understanding, all while being surrounded by a caring community dedicated to helping them succeed.
