Kairos
Kairos is a weekly gathering where international students and their peers build community, celebrate diverse cultures, and grow together. Through shared meals, activities, and meaningful conversations, students learn to live with awareness, gratitude, and encouragement. Kairos is a time to belong, grow, and enjoy the journey together.
What is kairos?
At Wheaton Academy, we believe students flourish when they feel connected, seen, and celebrated. That’s why we created Kairos—a weekly gathering designed to build community among our international students while also inviting other Wheaton Academy students to join in. The word Kairos comes from the Greek language and refers to a meaningful moment in time. Each week, we set aside this time to be together with purpose.
Kairos is more than a meeting. It’s a space where students from different cultures and backgrounds come together to build friendships, enjoy shared experiences, and grow in cultural understanding. We share meals, study together, play games, explore the area on weekend outings, and talk about life. Whether it’s ice skating in downtown Chicago, hosting a hot pot night, or simply catching up over dinner, Kairos is a place where memories are made and relationships are strengthened.
In Kairos, we focus on what it means to live well in community. Together, we learn to respect cultural differences, become more self-aware, express gratitude, and encourage one another. These rhythms help students grow in confidence, empathy, and leadership—skills that matter both in and beyond high school. Each year, students also collaborate to produce the Kairos Show, a highlight of the year that celebrates creativity and cultural expression.
For many, Kairos becomes one of the most meaningful parts of their Wheaton Academy experience. It’s a place to belong, to be known, and to build connections that cross cultures and last far beyond the school year.
καιρός
Kairos is the Greek word for “Time”. Our weekly Kairos nights are meaningful moments to pause and support each other during this season of time in students’ lives. It is centered around community, celebration, and support.
