Diploma Designations & Certificate Programs

At Wheaton Academy, students have the opportunity to explore their interests, develop specialized skills, and engage in hands-on learning through a variety of academic pathways.

Any student may take courses within these programs to gain knowledge and experience in fields like STEM, business, global studies, and design thinking. However, students who want to dive deeper and distinguish themselves in a particular area can choose to pursue a diploma designation, earning a certificate that reflects their expertise.

Our Distinctive Programs

These specialty programs provide the opportunity for students to get hands on experience in essential fields and for some, receive a specialty diploma designation, ensuring that they will be fully equipped for their study and work after high school.

MASTER Program

MASTER stands for Mathematics, Applied Science, Technology, Engineering, and Research. Every student at Wheaton Academy participates in the MASTER Program by taking Math and Science classes throughout high school, but students who want to specialize in STEM fields can take their learning further. The program fosters hands-on research, advanced coursework, and capstone projects that prepare students for future careers in STEM.

MASTER Diploma Designation: Students can earn the MASTER Scholar designation by completing at least 30 credits of MASTER courses as described in the Curriculum Guide.

Project Lead the Way: Wheaton Academy partners with Project Lead the Way (PLTW), a nationally recognized engineering program. Students taking PLTW-designated courses can earn college scholarships, access internships, and receive industry recognition.

Business and Innovation

Wheaton Academy’s Business & Innovation Program prepares students to be entrepreneurial leaders in an ever-changing world. From hands-on business courses to real-world case studies and competitions, students develop the skills to lead, innovate, and make an impact.

Diploma Designation: Students can earn the Business Scholar designation on their diploma by completing specific coursework and hands-on business experiences.

Fine Arts

Whether it’s performing in one of our twelve musical ensembles, participating in theater productions, or showcasing original work in visual art exhibitions, students are encouraged to pursue excellence in both technique and expression.

Opportunities abound in choral and instrumental music, video production, theater performance, studio art, and design. With expert instruction, state-of-the-art facilities, and a community that values creativity, students develop artistic skill and confidence that will serve them well beyond high school—whether applying to competitive university programs or simply deepening their passion for the arts.

Academy by design cohort

Academy by Design is a flexible, project-oriented, three-year cohort that empowers students to purposefully engage with challenges that matter to them and their communities. Students in this cohort blend traditional coursework with design thinking courses, internships, collaborative projects, and deep immersion in specific fields of interest.

Diploma Designation: Students can earn a Design Thinking designation on their diploma by completing academic requirements during their sophomore, junior, and senior years.

Video and broadcasting

Wheaton Academy offers dynamic opportunities for students to explore video production and live broadcasting through hands-on, real-world experiences.

Our new state-of-the-art media studio features industry-standard equipment and editing software, giving students access to a professional-level environment.
