Homestay Experience

The Homestay Experience, brought to you by Wheaton Academy Global, is a 12-day immersive academic and cultural experience that provides mentorship and connection with our U.S. based team, a host family, and students at Wheaton Academy.

The Experience

The Homestay Experience provides the perfect setting to make new friends, gain new experiences, and create lifelong memories in an immersive English environment.

Participants will attend classes, workshops, and events at Wheaton Academy to experience the U.S. educational model.

Participants will explore Chicago and its surroundings area through excursions to famous sites, top universities, an NBA professional basketball game, the theater district, and other activities.

About Us

With a rich history dating back to 1853 and numerous accolades, including the National Blue Ribbon School Award, Wheaton Academy is known for its traditional values, passionate teachers, innovative programs, exceptional learning opportunities and holistic student growth approach. Wheaton Academy provides rigorous college preparatory curriculum as well as co-curriculars, clubs and programs.

Since 2007, Wheaton Academy Global has offered an exceptional study abroad high school experience for students from all around the world. We partner to meet the social, emotional, cultural needs of students. We provide college counseling, placement services and help students increase English proficiency.

Host Families

You will have the chance to stay with one of our host families vetted and trained by Wheaton Academy Global. Host families are from the surrounding community (i.e. parents, teachers, alumni). We ensure you are in a safe and caring home environment. Our host families make you feel welcome. On the weekend, your host family will plan activities for you to experience the local culture.

Shadow Days

Academy student who has similar interests and a class schedule that lets you experience various fields of study. You will also attend the weekly events at Wheaton Academy such as Advisory Groups, Chapel and Community Time

Explore Chicago

Tour the most prestigious universities in the world; the University of Chicago and Northwestern University
Serve the Community: Volunteer at a local non-profit
Interview a US business professional
Attend a Chicago professional sports game
Visit iconic Chicago sites including, Millenium Park, Museum Campus, The Art Institute, Michigan Avenue, The United Center, The Civic Opera House

Workshop Days

During the 12-day experience you will have the opportunity to attend multiple workshops that provide practical skills and insights for planning a successful U.S. high school experience.
